The Houston Museum of Natural Science- Sensory Sensitives and Autism Spectrum Disorders
The Houston Natural History Museum is holding itself accountable to make sure everyone is able to enjoy their exhibits! They hold sensory friendly events 3x's per year.
Regardless of sensory days, their website is always available to assist someone with high sensory needs to navigate. The website includes:
- an Exploration Planner so you can see the layout of the space before you arrive
- a sensory guide describing various noise, visual stimulation, and tactile components of exhibits so you know which areas to aim for/avoid
- Vocabulary cards so you can make a visual schedule of your day ahead of time to make transitioning between exhibits easier.
The next date is Monday Dec 2 from 9am-5pm.
